What is Walk Your Plans?
Walk Your Plans is a projection studio that projects blueprints, landscaping designs, interior designs, and layouts at 1:1 scale. This immersive experience lets you literally walk your plans before ground is broken or materials, furniture or equipment is purchased.
By incorporating cutting-edge projection technology, architects, home builders, commercial contractors, interior designers, and landscape professionals are improving their workflow, reducing errors, enhancing creativity, and elevating the client experience, all while achieving more accurate, efficient, and sustainable designs.
Why should I use Walk Your Plans?
Change orders can get very expensive for the consumer and very time consuming for the builder or developer. A typical walk costs less than 1% of construction costs compared to 5-10% of construction costs for change orders. Our goal is to reduce frustration and eliminate errors in the early stages of development before construction starts and changes are expensive and time consuming.
By adding us to the design process, consumers save money, contractors and developers save time and frustration and everyone wins.
How does it work?
A couple days before your walk, your or your architect/designer/contractor sends us the plans in pdf format. Any elevations or displays or details can be sent in high resolution images.
We scale up the material and then you arrive at our studio and walk your plans.
We have a Vibe board (a 75″ interactive whiteboard) that you can annotate your changes on and we’ll send you back the updated file.
So, is it software that you bring to our site?
No. You come to our projection studio which is located in Tinley Park, IL and bring the design team for a collaborative environment.
Where are you located?
We are located in Tinley Park, IL at 8150 185th St, Suite L. We’re conveniently located just north of I-80 between I-355 and I-57
How much does this cost?
We charge by the hour. Our standard rate is $1250 per hour, but we frequently run specials to discount that price. Contractors, architects, designers, etc. can buy bulk hour packages and receive further discounts. The more hours purchased, the lower the per hour rate.
Are you a franchise? Are all locations the same?
All Walk Your Plans locations are independently owned and operated. We’re all part of a team, but the look and feel of each studio is different from each other. Pricing and hours of operation may vary slightly from location to location. Because we’re independently owned and operated, purchased hours are not transferable between locations unless arrangements are made between the lcoations.
Are you architects? Will you make changes to my plans?
We are not architects. You’re already working with an architect. We encourage you to bring everyone involved in the design process to your walk. You can also annotate and save your changes on our interactive Vibe board and everyone can receive a copy of the updates.
If you haven’t found your plans yet, Walk Your Plans has a national partnership with Architectural Designs and they offer discounts to Walk Your Plans’ clients.
So this looks cool, but I don't have any construction coming up, is there any other reason to use your services?
Our projection wall is approximately 600 sq ft. It’s perfect for presentations and with our studio having a speakeasy or club type feel, you can host events.
We’ve hosted a wine walk with a French chateau, a Bears – Packers watch party for the diehards, and we are hosting a movie night for one of our social media contest winners.
How long does it take?
We ask that you send us your plans a couple of days prior to your walk so we can set them up as a full presentation.
An average home walk takes one to two hours. Commercial developments can take several hours depending on the size of the project
Is it really 1:1 scale? I have a big house, how does that work?
We project plans at true 1:1 scale on our floor and have several tape measures available to verify dimensions.
Our technology allows us to move the floor plans under your feet, so there really isn’t any space that is too large to walk. You walk sections at a time. We’ve projected a 20,000 sq ft animal shelter and are currently in discussions to project a cruise ship.
What can I expect on an average walk?
You’ll get a real feel for the spacing and construction elements of your project. We can project elevations, cabinetry and other design elements to let you experience your space.
We can drop in furniture outlines in near real-time to help you with spatial visualizations.
If you’re looking for 3D, we have an AR feature that lets you see furniture on top of the space without using vertigo inducing VR goggles.
Our Vibe board lets you annotate and save changes. Our customers average 10-15 changes per walk.
I'm a builder or developer, what is the process for scheduling my client?
You pick a date and schedule it with us and your client. A couple of days before the walk, you send us the plans, renderings, elevations, and anything else that you think will help the client with their visualization. Bring the client, designers, and architects on the date of the walk, and walk your plans.
